The JustTap™ with the MagSafe option from KraftGeek is really something special! Most phone tripods require two awkward manoeuvres from you. The first is risking pinching your fingers by unfolding the three legs by hand, while holding your phone, drinking a coffee and juggling a backpack that’s falling off your shoulder. The second is opening that tight spring-loaded mount to wedge your phone in while ensuring you don’t let the mount trigger any of the multiple buttons on the side of your phone, while trying to get it horizontal for shooting.

KraftGeek have patented the JustTap™ mechanism to make your content creating easier than ever. It’s true, just tap the base on a surface, the small base legs spring out ready to secure the tripod in an upright position. Then you can just snap your phone into place via the MagSafe panel and extend the mini arm which connects the top of the tripod of the magnetic phone base to achieve your desired angle.
It’s an effortless, one-handed setup that takes seconds. I’ve used these tripods for a while and was extremely impressed when I accidentally dropped the tripod and instead of it clattering down the street, it sprang to life and sat legs extended and stable.
Attaching the phone to the tripod bracket relies on MagSafe technology. Meaning it works perfectly with a MagSafe phone or phone case, snaping straight onto the mount. If you don’t have a MagSafe phone, the JustTap™ Magnetic Phone Tripod ships with an adhesive metal ring you can attach to your phone or case so it can grip the magnetic base the same as if it were MagSafe.
Built to Extend and Fold Flat
Once activated, the centre rod extends from a height of 13 inches (33cm) up to 66 inches (167cm), covering everything from a tabletop shot, or close to the ground set up, to a full standing height for vlogging or overhead angles. The head tilts 180 degrees and the phone can be rotated 360 degrees by turning the position of the tripod. I would love to see in future models the ability for the phone mount to pan as well as tilt, meaning moving of the tripod wasn’t necessary. Switching between landscape and portrait, or angling down for an overhead shot, is very easy and does not require repositioning the whole tripod.
Collapsed, the JustTap tripod shrinks to 13 inches long and is about 1.5 inches across, weighing 15.8 oz (0.45 kg), it’s light enough to drop in a bag without thinking about it.
Stability Where It Counts
The legs extend out to 11 inches (28cm) at the base, with a wider stance designed to keep the tripod steady even in wind. The body is made from aircraft grade aluminium alloy, and the magnets holding your phone in place are N52 grade, which KraftGeek notes as their reasoning for a secure magnetic hold. KraftGeek also states the tripod has been drop-tested over 10,000 times as part of its durability testing.
I regularly fulfil several speaking engagements and sometimes a stand for my ipad isn’t provided. To solve this issue, I secured the spare Magsafe Ring on the back of my iPad and keep the KraftGeek JustTap™ Magnetic Phone Tripod in my bag. When the need arises I simply pull the JustTap from my bag, extend it, set the angle and slap my iPad Pro on. It supports the large iPad effortlessly and does so even while I swipe to change pages, as I speak.
What You Get in the Box
JustTap™ includes a detachable Bluetooth magnetic remote that controls photo and video capture from up to 33 feet (10 metres) away. It has its own 50mAh battery and recharges over USB C. A cable has been included for your ease of use and can be inserted into the USB-C plug on the bottom of the remote.
Housed in one of the legs. It pairs with your phone easily and its position means it can be used while vlogging or stored safely when not in use. The magnetic attachment secured in the inlet setting, complement its aesthetic nicely.
Included in the box is also an adhesive magnetic MagSafe ring, so you can easily apply it to your phone or case enabling the tripod to be used effectively.
Who It Suits
KraftGeek markets JustTap™ toward vloggers and everyday content creators, with overhead shots, low angle filming, quick landscape to portrait switches, and filming on the go while travelling listed as the main use cases. The one-handed setup and self-standing legs make it ideal for solo creators who do not have a second person to hold the phone steady.
It is my favourite portable tripod for two uncontended reasons. First, it’s the easiest small tripod I’ve ever had to set up. It’s reliable and quick and too easy to set up and pack away. Plus, it’s very portable and easily stows away in my backpack.
Secondly the MagSafe option, means in a flash I can have my phone attached, easily reorientate it for my shot and I’m ready to go. The Bluetooth button tops it all off, making the whole self-filming process as easy as it will ever be.
